Marel Food System has completed the installation of its second Scanvaegt RoboBatcher system, at Kronfågel in Sweden. With two other installations in the pipeline in the fall the new RoboBatcher is beginning to live up to its enormous potential as the ultimate labour saving system for packing of fixed-weight trays.
The RoboBatcher combines the strengths of several technologies to provide ultra-efficient fixed-weight batching, with minimal giveaway and attractive presentation in trays, all done automatically. A dual lane system can operate at a rate of 160-200 items per minute, with hardly any need for manpower.
Products of varying weight – such as chicken pieces– are automatically bayched and loaded into fixed-weight trays. At the same time, the RoboBatcher automatically “styles” these products so that they are presented in the most attractive way in the tray – in a “head-tail-head-tail” arrangement, for example.
The system consists of three main elements: the ScanBatcher 4700 weighing unit equipped with ScanVision technology, an ABB FlexPicker industrial robot with gripper arms for automatic tray loading and product styling, and a unique carousel disc separator system with automatic in and outfeed of trays (patent pending) giving the RoboBatcher its excellent batching possibilities.
The ScanVision technology enables the RoboBatcher to identify the exact position and orientation of each product item on the infeed belt. It also measures the length, height, and width of each product. This data gives the operating company virtually free rein when deciding on the most attractive way to present the products in the tray.
Marel Food Systems has high hopes for the RoboBatcher and its ability to help food processors get the very most out of their food products.
